I think I’m pretty much feeling the exact same way as Eydis in this page. Tired as hell. Doing two comics; this and L.A.W.L.S. is slowly killing my soul… I don’t mind. I’m just beat. Shoot me a vote?

Been a busy busy week I must say. As my life has been getting busier it seems that so is Eydis’. Looks like things are about to change in her life! At least she’s not applying for Grad School and on the verge of picking up and moving.. oh wait.. she did do that! That’s how she’s run across this curious creature actually. Let’s hope my potential adventure is as eventful as hers? Well… first lets hope I get in? See ya next week.

I know this page is only two panels, and has a major cliff-hanger, but I assure it’s for good reason. This page (the second panel in particular) has been in my mind for a while and I didn’t wanted to spend more time concentrating on little details for this page rather than pushing another 8 panels in. Either way, I hope you like the page… pervs! :3 Just kidding.

The thing about character development, especially when it comes to a comic that is posted once a week, is that it can have the tendency to feel slow. I’m doing my best to push the early character development of Eydis along as quickly as possible while still maintaining the integrity the core of the story. That said, I’m working to create a really strong visual environment in which you can still hopefully get lost as I try new things along the way. Example being the 6th panel animation, just for fun times. My only issue with this, which will more than likely discourage me from doing this in the future, is that I had to lose a bit of quality in the image JUST to animate that panel. The only way to created an animated image (other than flash) is by saving it as a GIF file, which is a limited format when it comes to color; it only has 256 colors. JPGs and PNGs on the other hand, though they tend to be bigger files, maintain pixel perfect colors! It’s a drag, but what can we do? NOTHING! …that or make a new animated file format… Someone want to do that for me? In case you are interested to see what I am blabbing about, click here to view the none animated JPG version of this same strip. I’m probably just to picky and you wont even notice. Obviously when this comic goes into a print down the line it wont matter anyway; We unfortunately don’t live in Hogworts so the images in a comic release will be the only be the highest quality versions with no web fun animations.

You might be thinking to your self “Why is this chick such a downer?” Well, let me explain to you the first of things that important to this story line: Eydis Nastasia, age 23, suffers from a depressive disorder and has the symptoms of which are classified by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual [DSM IV] as Anhedonia [(Greek αν- an-, without + ηδονή hēdonē, pleasure) is an inability to experience pleasure from normally pleasurable life events such as eating, exercise, and social or sexual interaction.]; hence the title “Anhedonia Blue.” I tell you this now instead of later because I think its rather crucial in understanding our hero from a more personal aspect. She sees the world jaded because of her lack of having the ability to feel basic pleasure from being around other people, but here’s the real question (the part I’ll leave to you to figure out), why does she feel so disconnected? Obviously a psychiatrist at some point, in his own understanding of her, felt that she’s far gone enough from other people that medication would be the only way to help her understand what she is feeling, because he couldn’t root in in anything but chemical disorder. But, as any good psychologist would know… there are many factors in why people feel what they feel: environment situations, upbringing, physical health, spiritual health, etc. So now we observe and start understand Eydis as she starts her day and the story that is now truly unfolding.

If you haven’t wandered over to the about page at any time yet, you may want to start, as new characters show up or other random/important facts start appearing I will be updating the about page accordingly. Also, all your votes have been a great assistance so far in spreading the word so keep them coming! I’m gonna try to change the vote incentive once a week (at least)! The latest vote incentive was posted 11-07 : “What Eydis thinks of her bra!”

And so our hero wakes up to a story unraveling whether she likes it or not. Since the day I came up with this concept, when I would picture Eydis’ room, I always saw her emerged in a pile of useless crap she carelessly left on the floor due to the fact she is an inquisitive slob. Meaning that at some point while sitting on the floor with something interesting she got distracted, of course with the intent of coming back to that given object, and starts working on something entirely different forgetting the first project entirely. In my minds eye I’ve really always seen her as a mess, who could barely get out of bed in the morning because she could care less to deal with the outside world. Which, honestly, is not far from my self on some days. One major thing her and I share in common is the fact that we’d rather spend our day’s indoors working on projects we find interesting instead of “wasting time” looking for things to do with other people when there is so many interesting things you can do by yourself. In that way, Eydis is a loner, yet the difference between her and I is that I can see myself getting to that point and rather not but she on the other hand is content with this.

Now here we go, that’s more like it! I’ve been anxious to post this page because of the simple fact that it sets the tone for this comic as a whole. The two previous pages soul purpose were to visually introduce Eydis and then give you the framework in which this comic takes place. From this point on the story unfolds; you will now get a feeling as to who our protagonist and antagonists are and what Anhedonia Blue is all about. I hope you enjoy and start to develop questions as to who is who and what is what. :]
