In case you are wondering, on Eydis’ desk she has a few comic books sitting there. The three comics are all webcomics in which I read. The top most being my friend Scott’s comic which I told you guys about last week called Motokool, the next being my friend Ali’s comic Spaghetti Strap Western, and finally, my biggest influence in wanting to create a graphic novel The Zombie Hunters! If you haven’t read any of those comics I recommend that you do!

I’m gonna keep this blerb short, Just thought I’d give a few updates and some interesting facts. Firstly, you can finally download the first Anhedonia Blue Desktop wallpaper at the Extras Page! I made it in three sizes, so hopefully that theirs a fitting image for whatever your display might be. If you need a specific size let me know, and I’ll make one for you. Also, if you didn’t get a chance to see at my other site, there’s a character sketch of the little creature from this page at Unconscious Ink [ui]; which btw is now connected to my portfolio.

Other than that, I just wanted to let you folks know that my good friend Scott Ferguson of Nerf This just launched his very own graphic novel called Moto Kool, which I’m pretty excited about So i wanted to give you guys a link to follow along! I believe he’s gonna post every Monday like me!

Finally, the serendipitous moment has occurred… Even if Eydis has yet to notice it.

Do you like coffee? I love coffee, and so does Eydis! I’m personally a fan of McDonald’s coffee, though I’d definately get a cup of Starbucks from time to time. Eydis on the other hand, because she’s a comic character has to get her coffee fixes from Tarfux! One thing though that I’ve never understood about coffees is the way they name them and the sizes of which you can buy them in. What, for instance, is the deal with “a tall” being the name of the small ass cup at Starbucks? Irritates the hell out of me every time I see it. Shouldn’t it be called “a short” or “a not worth your time and/or money for what you get?” I don’t feel that the word tall makes me feel any better about my slighted purchase! Also, completely irrelevant to my rant but never go to a coffee shop and ask for “a regular ass coffee!” Apparently, this is rude and offensive to a barista and you wont get the same plesant response Eydis got in the real world. Baristas are a crazy folk sometime…. Which, by the way leads to a small behind the scenes point about this page. The barista at this specific Tarfux is actually Mr. Ali Showkati, the artist and writer of Spaghetti Strap Western. For a few years Ali worked for Starbucks and loved his job so much that I just had to throw him in this page as the barista that would serve Eydis! He’s served everyone else…so why not start serving our comic book characters too!

And so we learn that Eydis has a fucking potty mouth! This is one of the few reasons this comic is rated Mature; my characters tend to cuss. I don’t believe in censorship in art, to me if art is really supposed to be a true expression of the human condition… then to stay true to human existence it should honor just that, reality. That being said.. I drew a little creature that has nothing to do with reality in the first panel. That’s right… As I stand on this soap box I rant to you words that mean nothing!

…I’m just delirious from how long this page took. For the first time ever I drew an entire comic completely on my tablet. At first this made my life way easier.. but as time went on I realized with out pre-created backgrounds and such that this was quite the task! Either way, I’m super pleased with the results and will be continuing the comic from this point on with my tablet. I hope you enjoyed watching Eydis’ embarrassing moment. Guess it doesn’t pay to be a jerk!

The thing about character development, especially when it comes to a comic that is posted once a week, is that it can have the tendency to feel slow. I’m doing my best to push the early character development of Eydis along as quickly as possible while still maintaining the integrity the core of the story. That said, I’m working to create a really strong visual environment in which you can still hopefully get lost as I try new things along the way. Example being the 6th panel animation, just for fun times. My only issue with this, which will more than likely discourage me from doing this in the future, is that I had to lose a bit of quality in the image JUST to animate that panel. The only way to created an animated image (other than flash) is by saving it as a GIF file, which is a limited format when it comes to color; it only has 256 colors. JPGs and PNGs on the other hand, though they tend to be bigger files, maintain pixel perfect colors! It’s a drag, but what can we do? NOTHING! …that or make a new animated file format… Someone want to do that for me? In case you are interested to see what I am blabbing about, click here to view the none animated JPG version of this same strip. I’m probably just to picky and you wont even notice. Obviously when this comic goes into a print down the line it wont matter anyway; We unfortunately don’t live in Hogworts so the images in a comic release will be the only be the highest quality versions with no web fun animations.
