Masha’Allah (Mā šāʾ Allāh, Arabic ما شاء الله) is a phrase indicating appreciation for an aforementioned individual or event. Towards this, it is used as an expression of respect, while at the same time serving as a reminder that all accomplishments are so achieved by the will of God. The closest English translation is “God has willed it”, the present perfect tense of God’s will accentuating the essential Islamic doctrine of belief in fate. It is used to show joy and praise. It is said upon hearing good news. Another reason people use this phrase is to prevent the evil eye or jinxing.
Eydis says this phrase in her state of trance, on Chapter 1 – Page 16; She does not speak Arabic.
Nazar Bonjuk (nah-ZAHR bohn-jook, Turkish: nazar boncuğu, Greek: ματόχαντρο) is an amulet that is meant to protect against “the evil eye.” Attempts to ward off the curse of the evil eye has resulted in a number of talismans in many cultures. As a class, they are called “apotropaic” (Greek for “prophylactic” or “protective”, literally: “turns away”) talismans, meaning that they turn away or turn back harm; Eydis’ necklace is an example of such, it was given to her by her mother.

The term suggests “black” magic or “black” art, in which marvelous results are due to the agency of evil spirits, while in “white” magic they are due to human dexterity and trickery.
Undead Being – a corpse reanimated by a practitioner of necromancy, who has summoned them for use.
